Everyone in the world is starting a challenge.

Day 1 of this. Day 47 of that. Day 1,000 of something else.

And as a wannabe creator, I'm pretty sure you've given it a wild thought too.

So let's talk about it.

In this newsletter, we'll cover:

  • Why is everyone starting a challenge? (And is it actually helping?)

  • What types of challenges are blowing up on Instagram

  • Should YOU start one or is it just noise?

Also, stay till the end where you'll know exactly what to create this week.

Ready? Let's begin.

PART 1: WHY IS EVERYONE STARTING A CHALLENGE?

There's almost every creator account trying to start a series or a daily challenge.

But what separates a high performer from a random guess?

Here are some real numbers I came across:

  • One creator gained 261K followers in 50 days

  • Someone hit 1 million followers

  • Another grew 5K in just 5 days

That means it's working for a LOT of people.

So why is everyone on challenge steroids right now?

1. Visibility for the win

Of course, when you take on a fun, stupid, or entertaining challenge, you drive more people to your page. They get hooked. It's like a journey they want to follow.

2. Easy decision-making for you

Now you don't really have to think of a new topic every day. You just keep collecting days of the challenge.

3. People start recognising you

Both in your Reels and publicly. You become "that person doing the thing."

PART 2: WHAT TYPES OF CHALLENGES ARE GETTING FAMOUS?

Here's what makes for a good challenge:

1. Very catchy hook

Example: "Day 1 of cold plunging until I hit 100K followers"

2. Fast edits

Lots of cuts. Shooting in different settings. Keep it dynamic.

3. Show your personality

Make it about unapologetically YOU. This is the core reason people follow you.

4. Relevant to your niche

Not random stuff. Focus on people who are actually interested in your content and have a higher chance of buying from you in the future.

5. Keep it really challenging

Otherwise, what's the point?

Pro tip:

What used to work: 30-day, 60-day challenges

What's working NOW: Open-ended challenges

Instead of a day limit, keep it fun:

  • "___ing every new follower I get"

  • "Day of _ing every day until I hit 200K subscribers"

PART 3: IS STARTING A CHALLENGE RIGHT NOW GOOD OR BAD FOR YOUR PAGE?

If I were you, and starting a new IG account from scratch, I'd take a challenge. No questions asked.

But what if you've been creating content here and there?

Is doing a challenge even right for your niche? Would your followers like to see you every day, raw, random, and real with the challenge?

Here's my answer:

Start a challenge if:

  • You've been stuck at the same follower count

  • You've been wanting to pivot niches (a challenge can do it for you easily)

  • You've been thinking "but what can I even create for my niche?"
